A MESSAGE FROM MODOT: MoDOT’s response to winter weather is one of the most critical functions it provides to Missourians. Maintaining adequate staffing for winter operations continues to be a challenge for MoDOT, with an average statewide turnover of approximately 50 percent in the past four years for plow operators. We also have 80 Missouri counties that only have one MoDOT maintenance facility in the county. COVID-19 also creates the potential for employee unavailability for extended periods of time due to COVID-19 related illnesses and/or quarantines. As each winter storm approaches Missouri, MoDOT will evaluate the staffing situation at that time and review what parts of the state will be affected by the storm. MoDOT will communicate publicly if there are areas of the state with reduced available staff that will, unfortunately, result in more time to clear roads following the end of the storm. MoDOT’s priorities are to work on interstates and other regional priority routes first, and then to work on lower volume numbered and lettered routes. The concern may be having enough staff to cover the second shift in 24 hour snow operations. We strongly encourage people to not travel in winter weather if they don’t need to, and to download MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map app to their smartphone or tablet to have access to the most current road conditions. Macks Creek R-V COVID-19 Update: At this time, our district continues to have zero positive student cases (YTD = 9). We have two students in quarantine in the high school and three in the elementary. We have one positive staff member (YTD = 3) and two staff members in quarantine.
