The students in Mrs. Cowan’s English I and English II classes have been hard at work over the last several weeks creating Bloom’s Balls as part of their novel studies for The Hobbit and The Great Gatsby, respectively. A Bloom’s Ball is a 3D book report project where students complete activities involving: theme, setting, symbolism, vocabulary, character development, plot analysis, creative writing, analytical responses, making connections, etc., that take them through all levels of Bloom's Taxonomy, from knowledge to synthesis. Bloom’s Balls not only promote higher-order thinking, but the students have had a ball making them!

Congratulations to the MCHS Academic Team for an impressive finish at the annual PCL Conference Academic Bowl! Under Coach Jessica Cowan (our HS English teacher), our team of Ashlee Klinksick, Leanna Tower, Cameron Kates, Caleb Phillips, Molly Phillips and Grant English battled through four games and won three. The team finished in third place in our nine team conference. Caleb Phillips, as the second highest scorer at the competition, was named to the All-Conference Academic Team. Coach Cowan shared "our students proved that not only do they perform under pressure, but they shine...and they have a lot of fun doing it too! Their positive mindsets, leadership, and team spirit make me very proud to be their coach." Well played team! #MCPirates
