PLEASANT HOPE - Macks Creek concluded pool play in the Wheatland Tournament on Thursday and suffered a 10-0, six-inning loss to the Lakeland Vikings.
The Vikings scored four times in the third and never looked back. They pushed five more across in the fifth before the tenth and final run in the sixth to end the game via the run-rule.
In the top of the second Austin Brown drew a one-out walk before being thrown out at third on a Hunter Harris single to right. Harris would be forced out at second on a ground ball to short off the bat of Dakota Willis.
Macks Creek put a runner on in the third when Keith Edelman was hit-by-a-pitch, in the fifth when Dakota Willis walked, and then again in the sixth when Ethan English drew a walk.
Offensively for the Pirates Hunter Harris had the only hit of the night when he singled in the second. Austin Brown, Dakota Willis, and Ethan English all walked while Keith Edelman was hit-by-a-pitch.
Dakota Willis (0-1) started and took the loss for the Pirates. The righthander worked the first four-and-a-third innings, allowing six runs, one earned, on five hits while striking out six and walking three. Kyler Gabriel relieved and tossed two-thirds of an inning, allowing four runs, one earned, on two hits while striking out two, walking five, and hitting one batter.
"Offensively and defensively we are struggling right now," said Coach Trusty of Macks Creek, "our pitching is throwing strikes and teams are putting it in play. We just need to keep working and field better behind them."
Macks Creek falls to 2-4 with the loss. They will complete the Wheatland Tournament tomorrow (Friday) when they travel to Walnut Grove to take on Dadeville in crossover play. Game time is scheduled for 6:30.
