MACKS CREEK - Macks Creek welcomed in the Lakeland Vikings on Thursday night and the visitors put a 23-0, three-inning victory on the host squad.
After a quick strike out and ground out in the top of the first Lakeland took the lead and never looked back. They plated five runs in the first, seven in the second, and then 11 more in the third to create the final margin. They banged out 14 hits and utilized 12 Pirate errors to do their damage.
Junior Austin Brown made his first career Varsity start and worked two-thirds of an inning, allowing five runs, two earned, on three hits while striking out one and walking five. Sophomore Ethan English worked the next one-and-two-thirds innings and was touched for 16 runs, only three earned, on 11 hits while striking out two and walking one. Senior Keith Edelman made his Varsity debut on the bump and recorded the last two outs. He was touched for two runs, one earned, on no hits while walking two and hitting one batter.
The Pirates had one batter reach base on the evening. Senior Preston Borgmeyer reached on an error.
"We were without a couple of our Varsity mainstays tonight," commented Coach Trusty, "we had a lot of guys in spots that they are relatively new to as well. Every inning is needed time on the field to learn and grow as a unit."
"We will continue to take our game experiences and use them to learn and make ourselves better."
Macks Creek falls to 0-5 with the loss. No JV game was played.
