The Lady Pirates suffered their first defeat of the young season against a very good Weaubleau team in their home opener. A packed in zone defense proved difficult for Macks Creek as they started off cold from the field, falling behind 14-7 at the end of the first.
Showing some patience in the second quarter got the Lady Pirates back within one at halftime, but another cold shooting performance in the 3rd kept them on the ropes.
Trailing 27-23 heading into the final frame Macks Creek, behind the timely shooting of India Willis (18 points, 12 rebounds and 4 steals), took the lead with 2 minutes left at 34-33, but the Tigers immediately hit a shot to take back the lead and then iced the game with one more for the final tally of 37-34. Emma Seaholm added 5 points and Brooklyn Duggan and Katie Brown each added 4.
The Pirates inexperience showed immediately against a very seasoned Weaubleau team. Their suffocating press was simply too much for Macks Creek as they fell behind by a ton, 46-7 at half time, and, even though they played better in the second half, they were simply outmatched as they lost for the second time by a convincing margin 63-20. Hunter Cullen led the Pirates with 7 points and 7 rebounds. Mason Stoner added 5 and Caiden Ramirez added 4.
